About RealRoute
Last updated June 2026
RealRoute is an independent travel publication covering the global travel landscape. We publish deep-dive destination guides, ranked lists, and decision frameworks for travelers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, four markets that share airline networks, passport strength, and most of the same planning questions.
The site is published independently under the RealRoute name, with no outside ownership or sponsor dictating editorial coverage.
Why we started RealRoute
RealRoute began with a simple frustration: most travel pages that rank well are written to sell a tour, not to answer the question a traveler actually typed. We set out to build the opposite, a reference where every cost figure, safety note, and visa rule is checked against a real source and dated, so you can plan a trip from the page instead of leaving it to fact-check elsewhere. Our mission is narrow on purpose: give travelers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia honest, current answers to the decisions that cost real money and real days off.
Built so you can plan a trip from the page, instead of leaving it to fact-check elsewhere.
Who writes RealRoute
Every page carries a named author, and our writers travel the destinations and beats they cover. You can see the full roster on the team page.

Long-term backpacker and founder of a major budget-travel site, focused on stretching trips further without cutting the good parts.

Points-and-miles specialist who breaks down award charts, transfer partners, and when a redemption is actually worth it.

Solo traveler across dozens of countries, writing on staying safe, comfortable, and confident on the road alone.
Our standards at a glance
Every cost, safety, and visa claim links to a real, official source you can check.
Each page shows its review date and is updated through the year as things change.
No advertiser or sponsor decides what we cover or how we rank it.
Material errors are fixed in the open and the date is updated, never rewritten quietly.
The complete process lives in our editorial guidelines.
What we cover
We write for travelers in four English-speaking markets, the US, UK, Canada, and Australia, that share airline alliances, passport strength, and most of the same planning questions. Our beats span destinations and ranked lists, flights and points, budgeting, safety, visas and entry rules, travel insurance, and trip styles from solo to family. Missing something you wanted answered? Suggest a topic and we'll look into it.
How we work
Cost figures are real, mid-range daily budgets cross-checked against Numbeo, Budget Your Trip, and national tourism boards. Safety references use the Global Peace Index and official government advisories, the US State Department, UK FCDO, and Australia's Smartraveller. Arrivals and visitor data cite Euromonitor, the UN Tourism Barometer, and official statistics agencies. Visa and entry rules are checked against government immigration sources. When sources conflict, we reconcile openly and note the discrepancy.
What we won't do
We don't accept pay-for-placement in editorial coverage. We don't write "sponsored destination reviews." We don't reprint tourism-board copy and call it independent. And we don't pretend every destination suits every traveler, guides flag the wrong-fit cases alongside the recommendations where the data supports it.
Advertising
The site is supported by display advertising served through Google Ad Manager and programmatic partners. Ad slots are rendered as clearly delineated units; they never appear inside an article disguised as editorial. Commercial relationships, including affiliate links, which may appear on some pages, are disclosed where they would be material to a traveler's decision.
